Perinatal Psychiatric Services at NeuroPsych Wellness Center

Perinatal Psychiatric Services at NeuroPsych Wellness Center

At NeuroPsych Wellness Center, we understand that the perinatal period—the time during pregnancy and up to one year postpartum—can bring immense change, both physically and emotionally. While many women experience joy during this period, it can also come with significant mental health challenges. Our specialized Perinatal Psychiatric Services are designed to provide compassionate care and support to women navigating these unique challenges during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

Why Perinatal Psychiatry?

Mental health issues during pregnancy and after childbirth are common, yet they are often misunderstood or overlooked. Conditions such as perinatal depression, anxiety, and mood disorders can arise or worsen due to hormonal changes, stress, and the demands of motherhood. Our goal is to provide timely, individualized treatment that addresses these concerns in a supportive and understanding environment, promoting well-being for both the mother and child.

Conditions We Treat

We provide specialized care for a variety of perinatal psychiatric conditions, including:

  • Perinatal Depression: Persistent sadness, difficulty bonding with the baby, and loss of interest in daily activities during pregnancy or postpartum.
  • Perinatal Anxiety: Excessive worry or fear about pregnancy, childbirth, or parenting.
  • Postpartum Depression: A form of depression affecting new mothers, impacting mood, energy, and daily functioning.
  • Postpartum Anxiety and OCD: Intense fear or intrusive thoughts related to harm coming to the baby.
  • Bipolar Disorder: Management of bipolar disorder during pregnancy and postpartum.
  • Birth Trauma and Adjustment to Motherhood: Emotional distress following traumatic childbirth experiences and the challenges of adjusting to new motherhood.
  • Perinatal Psychosis: A rare but serious condition that requires immediate attention.

Our Approach to Care

At NeuroPsych Wellness Center, we take a multidisciplinary approach to perinatal mental health, offering evidence-based treatments tailored to everyone. Our services include:

  • Psychiatric Evaluation and Diagnosis: Comprehensive evaluations to identify mental health conditions related to pregnancy and postpartum.
  • Individualized Treatment Plans: Personalized treatment options, including psychotherapy, medication management, or a combination of both.
  • Collaborative Care: We work closely with your OB/GYN and pediatric care providers to ensure an integrated approach to your care.
  • Psychotherapy: Evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal therapy (IPT) to address perinatal mental health concerns.
  • Medication Management: Safe and effective use of psychiatric medications during pregnancy and breastfeeding when necessary.
  • Support for Parenting: Guidance to help new parents adjust to the challenges of parenthood and family life.
